AT&T Film Awards

The AT&T Film Awards shines light on emerging creators from across the U.S., including a category for underrepresented filmmakers, and awards storytellers for utilizing innovative technologies like shot on mobile, interactive films, mixed reality, and innovative uses of visual effects.

Cathy Yan



Cathy Yan is a filmmaker born in China and based in New York. She received a dual MFA in film and an MBA at New York University, as well as a BA from Princeton University. Previously, she was a reporter for the Wall Street Journal in New York, Hong Kong and Beijing.

Her first feature, DEAD PIGS, won the Special Jury Prize for ensemble acting at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, the Grand Jury Prize at Dallas Film Festival, the New Director's Grand Jury Prize and China Star's Best First Feature at Seattle Film Festival and the San Francisco Film Critic's Award at CAAMFest, among others.

She is set to direct Margot Robbie as the character Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey (and The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) at Warner Bros/DC, making her the first Asian woman to direct a superhero film.

David Christopher


President - AT&T Mobility & Entertainment

David Christopher leads AT&T’s extensive portfolio of consumer entertainment and connectivity services, including AT&T Mobility, DIRECTV, DIRECTV NOW, U-verse TV, AT&T Fiber, AT&T Internet, and Cricket Wireless, totaling over 150 million connections and $120 billion in revenue. David’s scope covers AT&T Mobility & Entertainment profitability, strategy and business development, research, pricing, customer acquisition and retention, product development, marketing, advertising and media deployment, and merchandising for over 5,000 exclusive AT&T stores and 4,500 Cricket Wireless stores.

His team’s focus to develop products, offers and integrated solutions across wireless, video and high-speed internet brings together the worlds of technology, media and telecommunications. He also oversees the award-winning AT&T Developer Program, which provides developers and content creators with APIs, tools and training to build innovative applications and entertainment experiences on the AT&T world-class network and distribution platforms.

David previously served as Chief Marketing Officer of AT&T Entertainment Group, Chief Marketing Officer of AT&T Mobility, and Vice President of Product Management for AT&T’s legacy mobility brand, Cingular Wireless.

Before joining AT&T, he was Vice President, Product Marketing and Management at Palm, with responsibility for all Palm-branded product lines worldwide. He also worked for Apple Computer’s Claris software division, and began his career with Sara Lee Corporation in Barcelona, Spain and Gent, Belgium. He is a board member and past chairman of the Ad Council, the nation’s largest producer of public service advertising to combat pressing social issues. He also serves on the boards of Otter Media, a joint venture between AT&T and Peter Chernin, and CTIA which represents the U.S. wireless communications industry. David holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and earned his Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
